A Parking Lot Cemetery
Olmsted Falls doesn’t have its own movie theater, so if we do go to a movie it’s often at the Regal Middleburg Town Movie Theater. The theater has an unusual piece of history in its parking lot. If you aren’t from around here, you might not even notice it, but there on the western end of the lot is a park. To be exact, it is Hickcox Park, it is fenced in and as you wander in through the black wrought iron gate, you’ll see historical signs in the small area. As you look about you will also see gravestones. These are the burial plots of the Jared Hickcox family, one of the earliest settlers for the area.
I recall that historians successfully made sure the site was preserved when the theatre was being constructed several years ago. Here are some photos of the Hickcox Park:

I wondered if this was the only parking lot cemetery or if there were others. A quick search provided the answer. You can explore other Parking Lot Cemeteries at Wesley Treat’s Roadside Resort.

It’s very nice this small cemetery was provided for when the area was being built up.
